The breast of the eagle bears a shield charged with the quartered arms of the German Empire, itself adorned with the Order of the Black Eagle collar. Elaborate decorative scrollwork and oak-leaf flourishes fill the lower field beneath the eagle's tail. The legend DEUTSCHES REICH arches along the upper periphery flanked by the date 1891, while the denomination FUNF MARK is inscribed in the lower field, with a five-pointed star on each side. The whole design is enclosed by a beaded border. |
