Aanvullende informatie

Frederick August III was the last King of Saxony, abdicated in November 1918 with a bluntness that passed into German legend — his reported farewell to his subjects was roughly "Well, sort out your own mess then." The 1909 five-mark piece falls early in his reign, which had begun only two years prior following the death of his father Georg.

German imperial five-mark silver coinage was discontinued after 1914, making 1909 issues from the Saxon mint at Muldenhütten part of a shrinking window of production.
