The breast bears a heraldic shield depicting the Hohenzollern arms. The eagle is flanked by ornate laurel and oak branches, with an elaborate cartouche at the base. The encircling legend DEUTSCHES REICH arcs above and the date 1903 appears to the right, while FÜNF MARK is inscribed below, all within a beaded border.
