Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Friedrich, Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont, in left-facing profile, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and a short moustache. The truncation of the bust is smooth and unadorned. The encircling legend reads FRIEDRICH FÜRST ZU WALDECK UND PYRMONT, separated from the field by a continuous beaded border. The mint mark 'A' (Berlin) appears at the base of the truncation.

Reverse description Facing German Imperial eagle displayed, with wings spread and head turned to the right, surmounted by a large imperial crown. The breast bears a heraldic shield depicting the Hohenzollern arms. The eagle is flanked by ornate laurel and oak branches, with an elaborate cartouche at the base. The encircling legend DEUTSCHES REICH arcs above and the date 1903 appears to the right, while FÜNF MARK is inscribed below, all within a beaded border. Two five-pointed stars flank the denomination at the bottom.
