| Beschrijving keerzijde | Crowned imperial eagle displayed at center, its wings spread and head turned to the right, bearing on its breast the Württemberg shield. The legend DEUTSCHES REICH arcs around the upper field, with the date 1877 incorporated into the reverse inscription. The denomination * 5 MARK * appears in the lower exergual area, and the notation CU PROBE identifies this piece as a copper trial strike. A beaded border encircles the entire design. |

Pattern strikes for the 1877 Württemberg 5 Mark were produced as trial pieces during the early consolidation of German imperial coinage under the 1871–73 monetary reforms. Charles I, who reigned from 1864 until his death in 1891, presided over Württemberg's reluctant integration into the new Reich monetary system — the kingdom retained its own issuing authority but surrendered meaningful monetary independence with the Mark's introduction.
The copper composition here signals a die trial rather than a proposed circulating type; the production 5 Mark struck for Württemberg was silver throughout the series.
