The 1889 Wettin anniversary issue commemorates 800 years of the dynasty's rule, dating their tenure from the 1089 investiture of Margrave Henry of Eilenburg. Saxony struck both a standard silver version and this bronze specimen strike — the "a" suffix in the Jäger reference distinguishes exactly that. Bronze examples were produced as presentation or display pieces rather than circulation strikes, and survivor populations remain small relative to the silver issue.
