| Description de l’avers | Intaglio portrait of Thomas Müntzer, the 16th-century German radical theologian and revolutionary, occupies the right half of the note, with his name lettered beneath; the GDR national emblem — hammer and compass within a wreath of rye — appears in the upper left quadrant alongside the red serial number. The denomination is rendered in large bold lettering across the centre against a multicolour guilloche underprint of concentric lathe-work rosettes in blue, green, and orange. A geometric guilloche border band runs along the lower edge, incorporating the numeral 5 at both corners. |
