Beschrijving voorzijde Central colour vignette illustrates an interior domestic scene of an old Tondern lace-maker ('Alttondersche Spitzenklöpplerin') seated at her work table in a traditionally furnished room with a dresser, wall clock, and open hearth at right. The denomination 'Fem Mark' is rendered in large Gothic script spanning the upper field, flanked by a fine geometric guilloche underprint on a grey ground. A red serial number appears at upper right, with bilingual validity text in German and Danish flanking the vignette to left and right respectively, and the issuing authority signature 'Paulsen' at lower left.

Beschrijving keerzijde Central polychrome vignette presents a view of a Schleswig town square at sunset, with a large tree at centre, a church steeple rising behind, and stepped-gable buildings to either side, with figures in the foreground; the word 'PLEBISCIT' is inscribed within a dark oval cartouche at the top of the arch, and 'SLESVIG' appears on a banner at the base. The denomination 'Fünf Mark' is set in bold ornamental Gothic letters divided between the left and right margins. Two symmetrical cartouche vignettes at lower left and right each show a sailing vessel against a radiating orange sunrise, and the outer border carries a repeating diamond lattice pattern with numeral '5' at each corner.

Opmerkingen

Tondern — now Tønder, Denmark — issued this note in the immediate aftermath of the 1920 Schleswig plebiscite, which returned the northern zone to Denmark. The city found itself administratively in flux, caught between the retreating German monetary system and the incoming Danish krone. Local magistrate-issued notgeld filled the gap during that transitional period, and Tondern was among the last German-administered towns to produce such scrip before the border formally shifted.

The single signature, Paulsen, almost certainly belonged to a municipal official rather than a bank officer — there was no bank to sign for.
