| Vorderseitenbeschreibung | Blue-toned Gutschein printed in letterpress, with the denomination "5" in large Gothic numerals at upper left and centre, flanked by guilloche corner ornaments and a fine cross-hatched underprint reading "FÜNF MARK" in repeat bands. The central text panel carries the obligation text and the issue date "Annaberg i. Erzgeb., den 1. November 1918" in Gothic script, above two manuscript signatures with their role titles. To the right, within an arched vignette, stands a full-length figure of a woman in traditional Erzgebirge folk costume, resting one hand on a pedestal bearing the numeral "5". A red serial number is printed at lower right. |

Annaberg, in the Erzgebirge, was one of dozens of German district administrations that resorted to locally issued Notgeld in 1918 as the imperial financial system buckled under wartime strain and small-denomination coinage disappeared from circulation entirely. The Bezirksverband — a mid-tier administrative body sitting between the municipality and the state — had no traditional authority to issue currency, but emergency compelled it. These district-level issues are among the more obscure categories of German Notgeld, often overshadowed by the municipal issues that dominate collector attention.
DeNG 3#017.01 places this within the first catalogued type for the issuer, suggesting a short series rather than an extended emission.
