The denomination numeral '5' appears in ornate guilloche rosettes at upper left and upper right, with the legend 'MAREK POLSKICH' across the top. The Polska Krajowa Kasa Pożyczkowa — the Polish State Loan Bank — was a German-administered institution established in 1916 under the occupation authority of the Kingdom of Poland, a puppet state carved out of Russian-controlled Polish territory after the Central Powers' 1915 eastern offensive. These notes were issued to fill the currency vacuum left by the retreating Russian administration, and they circulated alongside German military marks rather than replacing them outright.
The PKKP series is often treated as a precursor to independent Polish currency, but the institution answered to Berlin. That political reality is baked into the paper itself.
