| 裏面の説明 | Winged thunderbolt displayed horizontally at center, with radiating wings and detailed feathering rendered in bold relief — a symbol of Zeus and of royal Macedonian dynastic pretension. The legend BAΣIΛEOΣ above and IEPΩNYMOY below frames the device, with the monogram KI appearing in the upper field between the wings. The composition is bold and commanding, reflecting Hieronymus's alignment with Ptolemaic and Macedonian royal imagery. |

Hieronymus came to power in Syracuse at roughly fifteen years old following the death of his grandfather Hieron II, and his reign lasted less than thirteen months before he was assassinated by his own officers in 214 BC. The coins struck under him are accordingly among the rarest issues of Syracusan silver — not a product of a long-running mint program, but of a teenager's brief and chaotic rule during which he abandoned Syracuse's longstanding alliance with Rome in favor of Carthage, a pivot that ultimately sealed the city's fate.
