| Reversbeschreibung | Two suited male figures are depicted in the centre of the field shaking hands, representing Malta's diplomatic engagement with the United Nations; the engraver's initials NCB appear in small letters at the lower left of the group. The official United Nations 50th Anniversary logo, featuring the UN emblem integrated with the numeral 50, is positioned in the upper right of the field above the figures. A circular border legend in Maltese reads 'HAMSIN SENA NAZZJONIJIET UNITI' along the upper arc and 'FL-GHAQDA L-PACI' along the lower arc, punctuated by raised dots. The denomination Lm5 is inscribed in the lower central field beneath the figures. |

Issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations, this coin was part of a coordinated global program in which dozens of national mints struck commemoratives to the same specification — Malta among them. The uniformity was deliberate: the Commonwealth Mint program supplied the blanks and coordinated the release, meaning this piece shares its physical parameters with parallel issues from Caribbean, Pacific, and African member states, most of which were struck at the Pobjoy Mint or the Royal Mint on contract.
Malta joined the UN in 1964, the same year it achieved independence from Britain.
