| Obverse description | Finely modelled right-facing draped bust of Pope Pius XII, wearing a zucchetto and spectacles, his cope richly ornamented with scrollwork at the collar. The legend PIVS XII P M AN XIX arcs around the periphery, with the engraver's signature GIAMPAOLI incused along the lower rim. The portrait is rendered in high relief with exceptional sculptural detail, characteristic of a proof pattern strike. |
