O.PRE.V. was a Milan-based private pension and welfare organization, and these 5 Lire notes are among the more obscure examples of Italian fiduciary scrip — issued internally for use among members or employees rather than as general-circulation currency. By 1956, the Italian state had long reclaimed monetary authority, so any private note of this period existed in a legally ambiguous space, tolerated rather than sanctioned.
