Obverse description Bare-headed, right-facing portrait bust of Joachim Murat (Gioacchino Napoleone), King of Naples, rendered in high relief with elaborately curled hair and a short beard, in the Neoclassical manner. The effigy, engraved by Niccolò Morghen, displays fine detail in the treatment of the hair and facial features. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading GIOACCHINO NAPOL RE DELLE DUE SICIL., distributed around the periphery of the coin. The field is broad and smooth, accentuating the bold relief of the bust. The overall composition reflects the Napoleonic-era aesthetic of imperial portraiture.
