Banque du Liban's zodiac series, of which this is one installment, was issued primarily for the collector market rather than circulation — Lebanon's domestic coin use has been dominated by the lower-denomination aluminum and nickel-clad pieces since the post-civil-war monetary reconstruction of the 1990s. The 5 Livres face value is essentially nominal; no circulating example of this denomination in silver has ever been intended for a cash register.
