Raouche Rock — the twin sea stacks off the Beirut coast — became the subject of a minor conservation dispute in the 2000s after years of tourist pressure and unauthorized climbing degraded the basalt formations. This coin was issued as part of Banque du Liban's ongoing natural landmarks bullion series, which began in the mid-2000s and drew on Lebanon's geography at a moment when the country was rebuilding its international image following the 2006 war with Israel.
