The Gemini issue is part of Banque du Liban's long-running zodiac series, launched in the early 2000s as the bank sought collector revenue during a period when Lebanon's public debt had ballooned to among the highest ratios relative to GDP in the world. The .500 fineness — half silver — reflects a deliberate cost constraint built into the series from the outset.
