Obverse description The obverse features the Maltese coat of arms centered within a raised inner circle, depicting a traditional Maltese dgħajsa (water taxi) under a radiant sun above wavy lines representing the sea, with a fasces at lower right. The shield is rendered in fine relief with careful detail to the vessel's hull and oar. The circular legend REPUBBLIKA · TA' · MALTA · runs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, with a small star at the lower field terminating the inscription.
