Turkey struck aluminium 5 Lira pieces through the early 1980s in multiple die varieties distinguished by the size of the numeral and the orientation of the crescent — differences that emerged not from deliberate policy but from the practical realities of managing multiple working dies across high-volume production runs during a period of severe inflation. The KM#949.2 variety, with crescent to right and small 5, is the scarcer of the two principal subtypes.
