| 背面描述 | A three-quarter-length portrait of Sophronius of Vratsa (Sofroniy Vrachanski) dominates the field, depicting the Bulgarian Orthodox bishop in full ecclesiastical vestments, wearing a mitre, holding a pastoral staff (crozier) in his right hand, and raising his left hand in a blessing gesture. A pectoral cross adorns his chest. The Cyrillic legend СОФРОНИЙ to the left and ВРАЧАНСКИ to the right of the portrait identifies the subject, with the birth and death years 1739 and 1813 flanking the figure in the lower field. |

Sophronius of Vratsa — Bishop Sophronius Vrachanski — was an 18th-century Bulgarian cleric and writer whose 1804 autobiography, Life and Sufferings of the Sinful Sophronius, is considered the first modern prose work in Bulgarian. This coin was issued the same year communist rule in Bulgaria effectively collapsed, making it one of the final commemorative pieces authorized under the Zhivkov regime before his removal in November 1989 after 35 years in power.
