Obverse description The Socialist-era coat of arms of the People's Republic of Bulgaria occupies the upper field, featuring a rampant lion within a shield, surmounted by a five-pointed star, flanked by wheat stalks tied with a ribbon bearing the founding dates 681 and 1944.
