A locally issued scrip token from Zalău, a mid-sized city in Sălaj County, northwestern Romania. These small-denomination vouchers were used by secondhand clothing shops — common across post-communist Romania — as a loyalty or exchange mechanism, allowing customers to receive store credit rather than cash change. The practice sits in a grey area of Romanian commercial law, and the notes carry no legal tender status whatsoever.
Virtually no collector documentation exists for this issue. Survival likely depends entirely on random preservation rather than any deliberate archiving.
