Obverse description Central figure of Lāčplēsis (the Bear Slayer), the Latvian folk hero, depicted in a dynamic pose forcibly prying open the jaws of a bear with his bare hands. The design is rendered in high relief with strong sculptural modeling, conveying heroic strength. The engraver's name J. MIKĀNS appears in the lower field. The legend LATVIJAS REPUBLIKA arcs along the upper periphery.
