Obverse description Draped bust of a young Latvian maiden facing right, depicted in traditional folk costume with an ornate national headdress. Stylized ears of grain arc over her shoulder, lending an agrarian symbolism characteristic of Baltic numismatic art of the period. The portrait, engraved by Rihards Zariņš, displays finely rendered folk embroidery detail on the dress collar. The circular legend LATVIJAS REPUBLIKA runs along the upper periphery of the field. The design reflects the Art Deco influence prevalent in interwar Latvian coinage.

Reverse description The full Latvian state coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield displaying a rising sun, a lion rampant, and a griffin, supported by a lion rampant to the left and a griffin to the right, both rearing. Three five-pointed stars arc above the shield, representing the three historical regions of Latvia. A decorative ribbon banner below the supporters carries the date flanking the large numeral 5 in the lower field. The Latvian word PIECI (five) and denomination LATI appear in bold lettering along the lower arc, with the year divided to either side of the central device.
