| 裏面の説明 | A stylized portrait of King Vakhtang I Gorgasali, the celebrated 5th-century Georgian monarch, depicted in heroic bust facing slightly right and rendered in relief against a panoramic background evoking the city of Tbilisi. The composition conveys the king's martial and royal bearing. A Georgian inscription in Mkhedruli script identifies the subject and dates him to the 5th century. |

Vakhtang I, known as Gorgasali — "wolf-head" in Persian, a nickname earned through battlefield reputation — ruled Kartli in the fifth century and is credited with founding Tbilisi, reportedly after a hunting expedition revealed the site's hot sulfur springs. He also reorganized the Georgian Orthodox Church, securing its autocephaly from Antioch. The historical record around him is partly hagiographic, making the man difficult to separate from the legend.
The .900 fineness places this issue in Georgia's standard modern commemorative gold series rather than the finer strikes occasionally produced for international collectors.
