The national arms of Angola occupy the central field, depicting a machete and a hoe crossed over an open book, surmounted by a five-pointed star, all enclosed within a half-wreath of maize on the left and an arc of cogwheel teeth on the right. A scroll at the base bears the legend REPUBLICA DE ANGOLA. Above the arms, the denomination 5 KWANZAS is inscribed in two lines in the upper field. The circular legend INDEPENDÊNCIA NACIONAL · 1975 · 2005 · runs along the periphery. |

Angola's 2005 independence commemorative series was issued by the Banco Nacional de Angola to mark the thirtieth anniversary of independence from Portugal, declared on November 11, 1975 — the same date three separate factions each claimed victory, with MPLA, FNLA, and UNITA all asserting control simultaneously. The MPLA prevailed militarily, but the civil war that followed lasted nearly 27 years.
The .925 silver issues from this series had limited international distribution, with most pieces absorbed by the domestic commemorative market before reaching European dealers.
