| Reverse description | The numeral '5' is rendered in a large, bold typeface dominating the left and centre of the copper-nickel core, with the denomination legend 'kwanzas' inscribed in smaller lettering below. To the right of the numeral, a traditional Angolan geometric lattice pattern — composed of interlocking diamond and grid motifs — fills the remaining portion of the inner disc, referencing indigenous decorative heritage. The nickel brass ring is plain and unadorned. |

Angola's 2012 bimetallic series was issued during a period of sustained oil-driven economic expansion following the end of the 27-year civil war in 2002. The kwanza itself had been redenominated in 1999 — at a rate of 1,000,000 old kwanzas reajustados to one novo kwanza — collapsing decades of inflation-era monetary chaos into a functioning decimal system that these coins were eventually struck to serve.
