Angola's 1999 redenomination replaced the readjusted kwanza at a rate of 1,000,000 to 1 — the country had been through two prior redenominations since independence, each one a direct consequence of wartime hyperinflation that had rendered earlier currencies essentially worthless in daily use. The civil war between the MPLA government and UNITA was still active when this note entered circulation, and it continued until Jonas Savimbi's death in February 2002.

Oberthur's Chantepie facility handled the print run. The twelve-year issuing window — 1999 through 2011 — suggests multiple print runs across the series, though individual dates are not always distinguishable without close examination of the serial prefix blocks.
