Malawi's small-format silver program of the mid-2000s licensed imagery from the Russian Imperial Ballet tradition, a commercial arrangement driven entirely by the international bullion novelty market rather than any diplomatic or cultural connection between Malawi and Russia. The Reserve Bank issued these as legal tender in name only — none entered circulation, and the face value bore no relationship to the silver content or retail price.
At 1.24 grams, this is among the smallest silver issues in the Malawian catalog, produced by a European private mint operating under contract.
