Additional information

Issued as part of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization coin program, which enlisted member nations throughout the 1970s to mint low-denomination pieces carrying agricultural themes as a form of development messaging. Turkey participated across multiple years and denominations. At face value, the 5 Kuruş was nearly worthless in circulation by 1976 — Turkish inflation had been accelerating sharply, and the lira's purchasing power was eroding fast enough that aluminium coins of this size were already economically marginal the moment they left the mint.
