Obverse description The elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Abdülaziz occupies the central field, rendered in fine relief with characteristic vertical shafts, looping bow, and extended horizontal arm. The tughra is set within a decorative inner border composed of alternating crescents and six-pointed stars, arranged in a scalloped or cloud-band pattern. The outer rim is defined by a plain milled border. The overall design is characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century Ottoman coinage, emphasizing the imperial monogram as the sole device on this face.
