Bradbury Wilkinson produced this series at their New Malden works during a period when Iceland's central banking functions were still consolidated under Landsbanki Íslands — the separation into a dedicated central bank (Seðlabanki Íslands) didn't occur until 1961, which is why notes from this run carry the dual designation. Halldór Pétursson's design work for the series was among the more considered of the postwar Icelandic issues, though the 5 króna denomination saw heavy everyday circulation and survivors in clean condition are proportionally uncommon.
