Sweden's switch to a decimal coinage system in 1972 prompted extensive internal testing, and several pattern pieces were struck in varying compositions before the final specification was settled. This copper-nickel trial was ultimately rejected — the circulating 5 Kronor that entered production used a different alloy mix — making survivors from the approval process genuinely scarce in any condition.
