Issued on 16 June 1948 to mark the 90th birthday of King Gustaf V, this commemorative note was Sveriges Riksbank's first purpose-struck commemorative banknote. The decision to issue a circulating commemorative at the 5 Kronor denomination was deliberate — a face value accessible enough to enter everyday pockets rather than collector drawers, though most Swedes put them away regardless.
One of the two signatures belongs to Dag Hammarskjöld, then serving as Under-Secretary at the Finance Ministry, seven years before he became UN Secretary-General.
