Obverse description At upper left, an ornate intaglio medallion encloses a large numeral '5' over intricate guilloche work. To the right, a vignette in fine line engraving portrays the allegorical figure of Mother Svea, seated and robed, resting against a shield with a lion at her side. A large multicolour guilloche rosette in red and blue dominates the centre, bearing the denomination 'FEM KRONOR' in bold letterpress, with the redemption legend in script around its circumference. The bank name 'SVERIGES RIKSBANK' appears in gothic lettering across the upper portion, with the date and serial number printed in black at upper right and lower left, and a red numeral '5' at lower right.
Obverse lettering Sveriges Riksbank inlöser vid anfordran denna sedel å FEM KRONOR med guldmynt enligt lagen om rikets mynt av den 30 maj 1873.
(Translation: Swedish National Bank, redeems this banknote upon request, five kronor, with gold coins, according to the law of the kingdom's coin of May 30, 1873.)
