Göteborgs Enskilda Bank was one of Sweden's provincial enskilda banks — private note-issuing institutions permitted under the 1824 and later 1855 banking legislation. Jacob Bagge was the dominant Stockholm printer for these provincial issues through the third quarter of the nineteenth century, supplying notes to multiple enskilda banks simultaneously, which occasionally produced near-identical typography across competing institutions.
The enskilda bank system was wound down following the Riksbank's consolidation of note-issuing authority, and most provincial paper was withdrawn and destroyed in the 1890s. Surviving 1877 Göteborg examples are genuinely uncommon.
