| Vorderseitenbeschreibung | The obverse is dominated by a central circular vignette displaying the Swedish lion rampant flanked by two classical female allegorical figures in intaglio, with decorative scrollwork framing the composition. The serial number and series letter appear in the upper left and right respectively, above the bold letterpress inscription 'GÖTHEBORGS ENSKILDA BANK' and the redemption clause 'inlöser vid anfordran denna Sedel med Riksdaler FEM Riksmynt.' The place and year of issue 'GÖTHEBORG 1873' appear at the lower centre beneath two manuscript signatures, with the denomination numeral '5' repeated at each corner. |

The bank name 'GÖTHEBORGS' appears across the upper portion and 'ENSKILDA BANK' across the lower portion in large serif capitals, all integrated into the lathe-work pattern. |

Götheborgs Enskilda Bank was one of Sweden's major provincial commercial banks operating under the enskilda bank system, which permitted note-issuing rights to privately owned banks from 1824 until the Riksbank assumed monopoly in 1904. The 1873 date places this note squarely in the period when Gothenburg's banking sector was still absorbing the aftershocks of the 1873 global financial crisis — a contraction that hit Swedish merchant banking particularly hard given Gothenburg's deep ties to export trade.
Surviving examples from this bank are uncommon. Most enskilda notes were systematically redeemed and pulped after the 1904 reform.
