Styrelsen af Kolonierne i Grønland operated as a Danish state trading monopoly, and its banknotes functioned as a closed-currency system — valid only within Greenland and not convertible in Denmark proper. This arrangement, maintained well into the twentieth century, ensured that wages paid to both Danish administrators and Greenlandic workers could not easily leave the island economy.
The Type II designation here refers specifically to the light green reverse, distinguishing it from the earlier Type I printing. This kind of mid-series color change typically reflects a reprint run using a different ink batch or a deliberate attempt to complicate counterfeiting — though on a note circulating in one of the world's most geographically isolated territories, the counterfeiting risk was minimal at best.
