Below the tankard, a three-line inscription in large incuse lettering reads SØLVSKATTEN GRUNNLAGET FOR NORGES BANK, commemorating the silver tax that provided the foundation capital for the establishment of Norges Bank, with the founding date 1816 inscribed beneath in the lower field.
