Reifenstein was one of several prisoner-of-war camps administered by the Austro-Hungarian military in the Styrian interior during the First World War, and like most such facilities it issued its own internal scrip to control the flow of currency among internees. This 5 Kronen piece was produced locally by Vereinsbuchdruckerei Celeja in Cilli — the town's German name, now Celje in Slovenia — a regional commercial printer pressed into wartime service for what was essentially a captive-economy instrument.
The single security feature is a handstamp, countersigned by Burghauser. Camp scrip of this type was invalidated upon liberation or repatriation, which is why surviving examples are genuinely uncommon.
