Obverse description Central shield bearing the rampant lion of Hesse, flanked on either side by decorative olive or laurel branches, surmounted by an elaborate electoral crown. The circumferential legend reads HESSEN DARMST in Latin characters, divided by the crowned shield, with the date 1765 appearing in the lower field below the shield, flanked by small rosette stops. The milled edge border frames the entire design. The heraldic style is characteristic of late German Baroque coin engraving.
