Hieronymus von Colloredo is remembered less for his coins than for his difficult relationship with the Mozarts — he was Wolfgang's employer and, eventually, the archbishop who dismissed him from Salzburg service in 1781. His long tenure coincided with Josephinist reforms that pressured ecclesiastical territories to rationalize administration and coinage alike, which accounts for the extended production run of this type across three decades.
