Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse displays the date and fineness inscription arranged in five horizontal lines across the central field, reading 1773 / CCXL / EINE / FEINE / MARK, indicating that 240 such pieces were struck from one fine mark of silver. The numeral 5, denoting the denomination in Kreuzer, appears within an oval frame or cartouche at the base, itself flanked by symmetrical laurel branches. The entire design is enclosed within a toothed or milled border, consistent with the milled coinage technique of the Salzburg mint.

Aanvullende informatie

Hieronymus von Colloredo became Archbishop of Salzburg in 1772 following a contentious conclave — he was elected only on the final ballot after weeks of deadlock. His tenure is remembered less for ecclesiastical matters than for his aggressive Enlightenment reforms, which alienated the Salzburg clergy and, famously, drove Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart out of his court employment by 1781. These kreuzers were struck in the early years of that fraught administration, when Colloredo was still consolidating authority over a principality that would survive him by barely three decades before secularization dissolved it entirely.
