| 正面描述 | Central field occupied by the quartered arms of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, surmounted by an ornate ducal crown with flanking scrollwork supporters. The escutcheon displays the characteristic Saxon barry with a crancelin, alongside the Coburg and Saalfeld quarterings. The date 1765 is divided across the lower portion of the shield, with the mintmaster initials I.C.K. positioned in the exergue below. The encircling Latin legend, interrupted by the crown at top, reads ERN. FRID. D. G. D. S. COBVRG. S., identifying the issuing duke Ernest Frederick. The coin is struck within a beaded border. |

Ernest Frederick ruled Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld during a period when the duchy's finances were under sustained strain — the aftermath of the Seven Years' War left most of the smaller Thuringian states scrambling to service war debts while maintaining the pretense of independent coinage. The KM#83.1 designation distinguishes this from closely related kreuzer issues of the same reign, reflecting die or minor specification differences documented by Grasser.
