Additional information

Charles Eugen ruled Württemberg for over five decades, but his final years were financially precarious — decades of extravagant court spending, including the maintenance of a standing army far beyond the duchy's means, had left the treasury chronically depleted. Small billon issues of this period reflect emergency-level monetary management rather than any coherent coinage policy. He died in October 1793, just three years after this piece was struck.
