Reverse description A crowned and robed figure of the Madonna standing on a crescent moon, holding the Christ Child on her left arm and a sceptre in her right hand, rendered in high relief in the Baroque manner. The figure is positioned centrally within the field, with the mint initials W·F· flanking her at mid-height. The date 17·48 is divided and appears in the lower field to either side of the figure. The surrounding legend reads SUSCIPE ET PROTEGE, a devotional invocation meaning 'Receive and Protect,' enclosed within a beaded inner border and a milled outer rim.
