The chaotic months following Hungary's defeat in World War One produced thousands of these local emergency notes — szükségpénz — as municipal authorities, factories, and cooperatives filled the vacuum left by a collapsing central currency system. This example was issued by a gas and chemical plant, which places it among the more industrially specific issuers of the type: a private joint-stock company paying its own workers with its own scrip.

Székesfehérvár was under Romanian military occupation for much of 1919, which makes the precise window of this note's issue and actual use a genuinely open question.
