Obverse description The obverse displays the Imperial Russian double-headed eagle, facing outward with both heads crowned individually and surmounted by a larger central Imperial crown. The eagle's outstretched wings bear six shield-shaped armorial escutcheons depicting the arms of various Russian territories. The right talon clutches a sceptre and the left an orb, emblems of Imperial sovereignty. On the breast of the eagle is a central shield bearing the mounted figure of Saint George slaying the dragon. The coin has no peripheral legend on this side, with the design filling the field to a milled border.
