Issued to mark the turn of the millennium, this note was a deliberate commemorative release rather than a routine addition to the circulating series. Note Printing Australia in Melbourne — the same facility responsible for Australia's own polymer notes — produced this on conventional paper, an interesting choice given that Papua New Guinea had already begun transitioning toward polymer substrates for its regular issues around this period.
Pick 19 is moderately scarce in uncirculated condition; many entered general circulation rather than being preserved as commemoratives, which was a common fate for low-denomination millennium issues across the Pacific region.
